Blog Assignment #2

                             Did you know
In Dr. Strange's video "Did you Know" , I learned many interesting facts. I learned India ha sthe higest IQ numbers out of the whole entire world and that India has more K-12 Students than all the students in the United States. We never really hear about India so it definitely shocked me to know how educated and advanced they are. It definitely makes you think to not underestimate other countries because we dont know what they have. Another fact that blew my mind was how many Chinese people are learning English.
Its said that by year 2025 there will be more Chinese spekaing English than all of the United States if they continue to learn English. This is crazy to me because all the facts that werte stated about India and China are very important for us as Ameroicans to understad, yet most have no idea. also, the videa said that we will be preparing our students as teachers for technology that doesnt yet exist. It makes you think, will our students outsmart us because of the newer, faster, and stronger technology that develops. Very interesting video.
Did you Know
                                                                                      Mr. Winkle Wakes
In Mr. Winkle Wakes the man wakes after being asleep 100 years. He finds all sorts of new and imorved things that move. He felt sick so he went to the hospital so they could help. When he got to the hospital he was comfortable beacuse of the technology was so advanced and he felt they couldnt help him. He doesnt understand the meaning of things as well as how they got there and what to expect. Then he walks into the school.
When Mr. winkle walks into the school he finds a laptop, one thats dusty and dirty and hasnt been used. He finds reseblance because he has been asleep so long and feels like the old laptop. He realizes that you learn something new everyday, and no matter how dusty you are or what you learn that there is always more to learn.

          The Importance of Creativity
Ken Robinson absolutely blew my mind in his speech. Ken said that schools kill creativity. I totally agree. He told a story about a 6 year old girl who drew God in class, as the teacher said "No one knows what God looks like" the child responded "They will in a minute". In the classroom you follow a strict syllabus in which it is very important to follow. If a child tends to wonder in class or draw instead of listen to the teacher, that child may be placed in a different class or condidered slow because of them trying to be creative in their mind. Robinson also said that we "grow out of creativity". That is exactly right. We are so scared to make a mistake or acidemically fail because of what people think that we become someone that we are not. Mistakes are meant to be made. We need to re think what the true meaning on intelligence.
The next thing that blew my mind that Robinson said was that chilren who are in school now will retire in year 2065. That is insane. Robinson said without creativity how do we know what to teach. How do we know what they think or want to be or anything they want to know without getting into their minds and listenining to what they have to say. With the strict school plan that the school systems have , we dont allow time for that. We give children maybe a 15 minute break or a 30 minute lunch but is that enough? Children need to express themselves with drama and art and computer classes. This speech that Ken Robinson gave was absolutely phenomenal to me.

A Day Made of Glass 2
The Video " A Day made in Glass 2", it shows what the future can hold for us. It shoes clidren usuing glass and turning it into extraordinary things. It ois going to be amazing to see the technology 5, 10, even 15 years from now.
It shows the classroom and how childrn move things around and have laptops and mix colors all together usuing nothing but glass. Its insane. This video makes you think about whats going to happen years from now. It makes you think "are the students going to be smarter than me"? It makes you think about how the world is going to work and it makes you see how amazing technology can really be. The world is advancing day by day and in order to teach others the way it works, we must teach ourselves.

  1. Hey Jenna,

One of the main reasons why China and India seem to be moving ahead of us is because their populations are greater than our country. The reason they have more students with higher IQ's is because they have more students than us!

I think you missed the point of Mr. Needleman's movie "Mr. Winkle Wakes". This movie was meant to show how much our world is changing everyday, and how little our classrooms have changed; in terms of use in technology. Mr. Winkle was upset and afraid of all of the new things he didn't understand. But, when he went into the classroom, he was comforted by how the classroom hasn't changed.

I too agree with Sir Ken Robinson. Without creativity, how can we expect our students to excel in anything other than Reading, Math, and Literature?

Good job on your post! Don't forget that you need to use links in every blog post. Also, when you insert a picture, make sure that you are using the ALT and TITLE modifiers. You can find those instructions in the Instruction Manual under the wordle project.

  2. Hi Jenna,
You did a great job covering all parts of the assignment! Your response to the Did You Know videos (both the original and the Dr. Strange version) were right on task, and I agree with what you had to say. Good pictures, but don't forget the ALT and TITLE modifiers. I made the mistake of forgetting those when I posted it and I had to go back and do it. As for the "Mr. Winkle Wakes" video, it was more about technology progressing and how alarming it is that schools are near the same as they were before he went to sleep. Make sure you spell and grammar check your posts. It's easy to copy and paste the text into a word document and use spell check there. Except for the grammar and spelling issues, you did the assignment well.
